V4 lower unit on a V6 My 99 22WA has a 98 Johnson 200 v6 with an SEI lower unit on it. I had to send it back to them because I found some large metal shavings and felt a bit of a vibration. I have a 96 130 v4 that has the v6 style lower on it. On the outside they're identical. I know the gear ratio is different. Anyone know what the difference in propping would be? I'm running a 14-1/2x18 prop. I also have a14-1/2x17 in the garage. |

DON'T DO IT! The 2.25:1 gears don't hold up to the added torque. V4's eat the 2.25: gear sets up where the 1.86:1 gears in a V6 live just fine. You would have to go up about 3-6 inches of pitch, and you would be rolling the dice on wether it chews up the gears or not. And I'm pretty sure teh driveshafts are different lengths on the two. The 93+ V6's used a shorter shaft I believe, but I cannot remember if the V4's made the switch or not. |

Was just a thought. I'll just wait the few weeks until I get the other one back. Thanks. |
