Re: Hey Tin

no I haven't Willy, looks like it may be a decent hull, but then again we would have probably heard about them one way or another over the years. I don't think TM is looking for a project boat anyway. He's a good fix-it guy, just not wanting a BIG project.

How ya doin Willy :) Thanks for lookin out for me. Looks like a decent hull but not for me. Too much of a project on a somewhat unknown boat. If I were to do such a project it would have to be on a big name brand. Also, I think I'm maxed out at 20' for towing/weight reasons.

I've been waiting to purchase a boat because I've been looking for a new place to live. I just put a deposit on a cool rental VERY close to LI Sound. It has room to park my toys! The best part is it's 4/10 th's of a mile from a beach where I can I launch Tinny. It's basically a beach launch, 4x4 required, which I have. It's also only about a 1 mile boat ride to my Stiper Hot Spot! I can literally be fishing that spot within 10 minutes from my driveway! To fish this spot from a regular boat from a normal ramp would mean a looong azz boat ride. Looks like I will keep Tinny afterall.

Tinny is a 16' Camp Starcraft/Monark modified Vee, specs:

Max HP 40 (has 40 Tohatsu)
Length 16'4"
Beam 74"
Weight (boat only) 520 lbs.
Transom Height (for engine) 20"
With Engine Up 10"
Deadrise (deg at transom) 15 degrees

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v206/Mnutz/tinny.jpg

As you can see, she's got a nice open area to fish, very roomy for a tin boat. The 15* deadrise means she rides pretty well. She actually ride softer then my old 17' Whaler Montauk, I wouldn't say it's more seawothy but definitley rides softer. Only knock I have about Tinny is water over the 20" transom while drifting. I have a couple ideas on how to make that better.

So, looks like I'll be a 2 boat owner afterall, was trying to avoid that, but seeing where I'll be living now....Tinny stays.

Re: Hey Tin

Been on Tin boats all my life, love um. If I lived inland it is all I would have. I still have my 17.5 1985 Mirrorcraft for sale at my buddies place right now waiting for spring. My buddy uses his 16.5 for fishing the Raritan Bay all the time. Cheap to run, handle skinny water, easy for one man to launch, and again cheap. But he is very experienced boater and even he won't go out a lotta days guys would normally go in a larger fiberglass boat. He'll fish from shore instead.

got me one of those too. It's not as decked out as yours Cap, or TM's boat, just an older Duranautic 15' w/ 35hp evinrude, straight as a pin and doesn't take on a drop of water, goes pretty good too!
