Cold, snowy January here in N Jersey

About 3 degrees below average so far this Jan at 29 vs 33 average......
That average temp may fall based on colder air next week, and snowfall well above average too.

Still, not nearly as cold as winter of 1976-77 when the avg January temp was 19 degrees.
My parents saved the Time Magazine from that month........the cover headline was
" DEEP FREEZE ".
Arctic air continued to slide down across much of the USA, and snow was reported in Florida.

My first house built in the 1920's had oil for heat. I often think about what I would be doing if I still lived there because I could easily go through a 275 gallon tank in less than a month with these kind of temps. My current house was also built in the 20's but the natural gas prices aren't nearly as bad. Although I did just hear last night he price went up 28% overnight last week.

It snowed here in North Carolina last Wednesday. We got around two inches and its been in the teens and twentys since so the snow is still hanging around. We haven't had a really big snow since 1980. We usually get a few inches a year and thats a plenty for me. I'm ready for some spring weather myself!!

It has been cold...for the first time in many years the ponds are starting to freeze over...just a matter of time until people start thinking they can walk on the ice and falling through.

I too, am ready for spring.

Hang on because it aint over yet. Southern states are under a hard freeze warning for tonight and tomorrow. They are predicting ice and snow in southern GA, Charleston, Savannah, etc. Somebody, Anybody up in the North Country do us a solid and close the freezer door already... By SuperBowl Sunday it is predicted to be in the 80's again for much of FL. :sly::party:

They're saying 40 deg for the Super Bowl here in NJ. Nice pleasant spring weather. Of course, they're also saying that much of the southeast will get hit with upwards of 6-8 inches of snow today.......
