I/o engine cover lining My 73 engine cover has a foam backed lead sheet liner, was that standard? obviously it adds a lot of weight and i am planning on removing it. I am just wondering if anyone has encountered this and if there was a significant noise increase. thanks. |

My 77 has a foam filled type of insulation with a foil backing. I need to replace mine too. Ive seen something at Lowes that looks about the same that I might try. |

I have replaced a few in my time , make sure what you use is fire retardent , some things can burn if your flame arrester doset work properly |

my suggestion... it doesn't add nearly enough weight to be concerned with but does an EXCELLENT job at sound reduction... I'd keep it |

There are reasons for the lead lined insulation... noise, fire resistance, and vibration. Like Smoke said, it does an excellent job of noise suppression, and a tolerably good job with the others. Keep it if you can. It hurts nothing, and helps a lot. |

thanks for the input everyone.I will leave it be for now. I may recore the cover with divynicell next year as it has a weak spot and see how the lead holds up when i remove it. |
