Inline 4 Yamaha 200
Not that I can afford one, but how do y'all think this newer 4 stroke will work on a V20?
|
I think it would be really nice, I thought about it but I think I am going to end up with an etec.
|
The weight is going to be a issue! I had the 225hp 4 stroke yamaha and it was close to 600 pounds and way to heavy for the Sea Ox. I would go with the etec myself if you are looking for that power. But a nice f150 would be my choise!

guy i snapper fish with just put a new merc inline 150 4stroke on a dusky 20' center console. very similar hull to a v-20. he loves it , avg 3.5 mpg.

Ferm beat me to it on teh weight issue(I think its 480?), but the Yamaha 200 and the Mercury 200 have very similar weights and performance. The existing 150 Yamaha has always been a strong performer. I haven't looked over a new 200 yet, but it seems like it would be the perfect motor for a V

Advertised weight 487 lbs. MSRP $19,040. Advertised price $15,072
Nice thing about these engines is if you already have a Yammie setup you can just swap the engines. Your old gauges and wiring will work with them without replacement. (or you can upgrade to the new digital gauge pkg being sold with these engines, but it's not necessary). |
Advertised weight (487lbs dry) vs rigged weight. I doubt it is any lighter than the 250 XL Optimax advertised at 505 lbs. in a 20" shaft. E-tec 515 lbs for the 250hp in 20" shaft. Amazing is the Yamaha SHO 250 4-stroke 20" is 505 lbs dry.
MJ is right the old 4-stroke v-6 are advertised at 605 lbs dry weight. They are making improvements. |
