another dumb prop quwstion
Since my 1989 YAMAHA 150 has a bad prop I am getting a new one . what size have you guys found to give the best all around preformance ?
I had a 14.5X17 alum. cleaver on it and wasent happy wiith it. It didnt get to high rpms. Thanks |
You had a cleaver prop on it? Why would you have a racing prop on a V20?
I'd think that a 17p Alum prop on a 150 would be just about ideal. Perhaps a 15 if you go SS. |
That was the prop that came with the boat ?? I am leaning to a a 15X 15 alum. prop ?? any thoughts ?

Just make sure that it clears the anti-vent plate on your engine. And I'd try to get one to borrow first before plunking down some hard earned bread. make sure it's what you're looking for in your prop. And make sure that your WOT rpms are in the correct range for that prop.

I'm running 150 yamaha 2 stroke with about the same - 14.5 x 17 stainless. It might be 14 x 17? Can't remember but I know it 14 or 14 something x 17. It is perfect to me. Runs up to 5400 RPMs or so. I don't think you'd be happy w/ 15 x 15, but then again I'm no prop man either! Destroyer is right on about try before you buy (if you can).

Yea I agree, I spoke with a yamaha dealer and giving the weight of the V20 he said go with a 14.5 X 17 prop that should be my best bet. So I orderd one $136 it will be in Monday so no fishing this weekend :cen:
any way thanks for all the advise |

I use to use the 15x15 and was happy! on both the V and the sea ox. I carried a lot of weight at times and it was great getting out the hole, and just about all, was a little slower on the top end but I was fine with just a few miles hour short!

have a 15x17 aluminum on my 150 merc and thats the right one for me

14.25 x 17p always worked well for my merc 150 on my V. Last prop I had on it was a Rev 4, was perfect.
