First time posting here Good afternoon all; I bought a 1982 V20 Steplift. I have been getting ready for the water and I'm almost done. Part of my "Getting Ready" deals with the motor - I would like to polish the cover a bit. It has become somewhat oxidized and dull. Cleaner polish didn't seem to do much. Went to West Marine and was offered the opportunity to pay $29.99 for a 16 oz bottle of color restorer. If I have to spend that much for a good job I will, but there must be some alternative. I have found tha WM can be brutal with pricing. Regards to all Hal |

Yes...welcome to the site and I agree w/Willy...heck...splash that puppy and go enjoy the season...you can sweat the cosmetics during the off season...hey, but that's just me... |

Welcome to the site! I would imagine any good car polish would fix up your cowl...I like the stuff in the orange bottle...."New Finish" I think it is, should be available at the auto parts store or Wally World for much less than West Marine. |

This is gonna really sound silly. but if you just want to get by for the season and then do a proper paint restoration then just get some ATF fluid or brake fluid and wipe the cowel down to make it look pretty and go fishing. then this winter paint it. sounds like a half @ss redneck thing to do but it will get you by till you can paint the motor. just saying. lol!! by the way welcome to the site, your surrounded by good people here!! |

Hi Hal Welcome to the site. Look in your automotive suppliers polish section for something called Color-Bac. I think it's made by Dupont. Stuff works really well and is less than $10. Redish orange can. If you can't find that don't worry, just rub it down with Black Magic (the stuff that they use for making auto trim look black again) and go fishing. Lets see that boat of your's... (We love boat porn here) :fam: |
