Prop selection questions

My 84 V20 cuddy has a 1989 YAMAHA 150 2 stroke on her , I's running a 17 pitch aluminum prop that came with the boat, any thoughts on the best prop for this V Thanks

Truthfully, sounds like you're just about dialed in with that prop. Of course you can experiement around and try a 19p Alum, or a 15p Stainless, depending on what you're trying to do, but for my money a 17p is a good all around prop for a 150 engine. How close are your tach revs to factory specs @ WOT? That will tell you if you need to make some changes.

There's more to a prop than just pitch...diameter and cup come into play as well...not to mention number of blades...I believe on these deep V hulls of ours, you'll get best performance from a large diameter prop...my Honda 150 had a SS, 15.25" diameter x 17p x 3 blade and it was dialed in pretty good

Destroyer is right, too...your engine's manufacturer states a max RPM for your motor...your prop should allow your boat to top out AT or as close as possible to that number w/a light load, top down and calm water...w/the motor trimmed high

Getting ready to find out just how dialed in you got it. Planning to splash this weekend :)

I was thinking about a stainless steel prop , but I have seen the kind of damage can be done to your lower unit if you hit an object HARD . were an alumin prop's blades flex and break off the stainless props are much stronger and do a lot of damage.

Like so many other issues in boating, it's a compromise either way...
