Bench Testing a Voltage Regulator?

My '88 Merc. 200hp s/n OB250710 has a voltage regulator (88825A 7) as well as a rectifier. Two wire, red and yellow go from the regulator to the rectifier. Rectifier tested OK, but I don't know how to test the regulator. Thanks!
