thats a Formula 233, not a Bertram, and i don't think Ray Hunt had anything to do with the design of that hull, other than it being a deep V. Jim Wynne and Walt Walters are considered to be the designers of the 233, there indefinably was some influence from Hunt designs, and Don Arronow took most of the credit

Look at the transom and cap, it's not a 233 FORMULA. Bertram did build a few 23 footers, but this doesn't look like one of them. This one looks like an Apollo, performer, or Sea Bird to me.

you're right! the sail area behind the side windows is definitely cut down further than the Formula, the transom looks all seabird, but i'd almost guess Apollo by the guesstimated age, i think Sea Birds were styled a little older, looks real good though.

Funny story, i was cleaning up the Formula i used to fish one afternoon and some guy walked up and said, "Nice Bertram", i said "its not a Bertram, its a Formula. The guy said back, "no, I know what I'm talking about, Its a Bertram!" I explained to the guy I've done a bunch of work on it(heads on both motors), it was owned by a friend, and I've fished off of it a bunch, I knew it was a Formula. But this guy couldn't be convinced it wasn't a Bertram. I think he spent too much time on The Hull Truth

I really thought it was a formula as soon as I saw it, I use to fish on a friends years ago.

The FORMULA 233 had to be one of the most copied hulls of all time, so it can get tricky trying to tell the difference between an actual FORMULA and a copy. You can always tell the FORMULA 233 from the transom(has the flat portion with steps that meet up with the curved portion), and the cap on them(before 73 had one style, and 73+ had another. Most copies were of the pre 73 cap). The 233 hull was also made by COBIA, AQUASPORT, SEABIRD, APOLLO, PERFORMER, BLUEWATER, CONTENDER, BERTRAM made a few but most were exported to AUSTRALIA, and many others I'm sure I'm forgetting right now.

this is our 24 albemarle. which is a identical hull to the 233. Albemarle might have changed the deadrise alittle and some other things but they are twins. Carolina Classic is also the same hull. If you look behind the cooler and swim platform in this pic you can see the flat spot on the transom Ferm is talking about. In my experience the formulas are alot lighter on glass than the our 24 Albemarle which comes in at about 7400 pound dry weight but Albe marle is a Factory/custom boat and is gonna have more glass in them.
