THAT'S CHEAP! Come down here to Florida and pay what we pay and you'll be thanking them for keeping the prices so low. I was paying almost $80 3 years ago down here for a 20 footer, and i know they have went up again since. In 08 they voted down the property tax increase to cover the budget deficit, so a senator got the bright idea lets double boat registration to make up what they couldn't get in taxes. And since owning a boat is a luxury it went through without any votes. A 40 footer down here will set you back over $400 a year. And used to be if you had a coast guard registered vessel you didn't have to pay a state registration fee, not anymore. They charge you regardless of where it is registered. if it stays here for over 4 months I think it is, you have to pay a annual registration fee. It used to be cheap to have a boat down here, but not anymore.

Let a politician even get a whiff of the smell of money and they will move heaven and earth to take it from you.

Interesting how they increased the cost of the registrations. 20-25' (which is the most popular class) saw the largest increase by proportion of them all, then the 14-19 footers, with the second largest increase, etc etc. Soak the most baoters for the most money.

My god Ferm... How the hell does everyone let them get away with that? Half of Fla must have boats... Vote the scum out of office and roll back the fees.

Don't think we haven't tried, problem is they ALL want to tax us. The county I live in charges you $22K for a home and $24K for a mobile home for impact fees for a new home. This is known by many as the extortion tax. You can go down and buy a mobile home repo for $8K, a lot in a trailer park for $10K, but have to pay MORE to the county just to get your certificate of occupancy so you can live in it.

I paid over $70 for my HYDRA-SPORTS the last time I registered it. The first time it was $32. Trailer only cost me about $25 IIRC. Haven't even renewed teh travel trailer as they wanted $90 for it.

If they had a lick of sense they would register boats for free...encouraging boat use would have more people paying that crazy-a$$ HIGH gas tax in NC...:booty:
