New tabs..Well, Old Tabs

My favorite supplier, Coastal Spareparts V20 Supply, sent me a set of trim tabs the other day...I like 'em but they were a bit too wide IMHO for a V20...18" wide had me concerned "Nose Down" could easily turn onto "DIVE"...

So whipped out the old jig saw and went to work...cut 'em down to 12" so now they're 8 X 12s which I think are better suited to a V20...plus by cuttin' 'em down, I don't have to relocate the transducer...

Then came the brackets...they got these funny lil tabs of their own that hold the tabs in place, so had to replicate those...

Just a lil short cut w/the saw and squeeze w/the vice-grips was all it took...

So now they're all cut down, ready to go, my favorite past time, drilling fiberglass is next...maybe tomorrow...

FREE sounds good!!...the blades are Porter Cable TPI-18 Bi-Metal...I had two left when I started and burned one up in the 1st cut, tryin' to go too fast...mark your line and run a bead of cutting oil down the line and go SLOW...clamp the work down good so it doesn't jump

You might wanna look around for a more substantial blade, but this will do it...course ya wanna have a good fine flat file to clean up with after the cutting's done...pics of yours too...

Aussie...just my opinion, but I like 8 x 12s on V20s...that size is ample to the job...I remember trying to plane up one day after installing my 1st set...bow was plowing like crazy til I remembered to raise the tabs...

Problem is, 90% of the boats being scrapped are only being sold to dealers or scrap yards. Not a lot to pick and choose from for the average guy. And what is left is being sold at premium prices from the insurance companies at "auctions".

Great looking tabs Reel. Wish we had weather like that up here so we could work on our boats also. Spring prep is still a month or so away though. <sigh>
