Aux> motor hp & shaft size
 

I just came across a deal on a S.S. aux. motor mount used 1 season for $50 , Well I bought it. Now my question is will a 9.9 EVINRUDE 2 cycle short shaft be able to move the V20 and do I need a long shaft ?? I know a lot of you guys have kicker motors and wonder what you all use Thanks

Yep,you're ok as long as you only want to move your V slowly. I use a 9.9 myself, as do a lot of other guys here. It's great for trolling, or, in an emergency, as a get home engine... just don't expect to go very fast. As to the shaft length, you're talking 5 inches difference, and you can counter that by just mounting the kicker bracker a little lower. Remember, you're not going for optimal placement for doing 40 mph up on plane.. you're just looking to push your boat. Get the prop in the water, try to get the anti-vent plate even with or just below the bottom of the hull and you'll be fine.:head:

PS: Since I don't know what kind of bracket you got, one final bit of advice. Make sure you can tilt your engine up and out of the water before you mount the bracket. Some small brackets for tiny outboards don't have enough clearance between the engine mounting plate and the stern unless it's up real high so the outboard swings up over the transom.

Thanks Destroyer I think it will be fine then. Think I will install a 1/4" steel plate inside the transom to mount with the motor bracket to. and install a 12 gallon fuel tank up in the cuddy. I cant wait till spring I am so envious of you guys down south I HATE WINTER

consider stainless or aluminum... even sealed 3/4" plywood

Anything other than steel unless you LIKE rust.

Yea , I will use s.s. plate. with s.s. bolts . rust is not your friend

not to completely steal the thread but do you guys think a 4hp kicker would move the v20?

all i would ever need out of it is 2mph for trolling for walleye

I really don't know... there are other guys here that probably know much better than me. But I think that on a lake, on a calm day, yes, it would be ok to move the boat. Not sure about the 2mph thing ....but remember, your boat presents a pretty big cross-sectional resistance to the wind, and I'd be concerned that with a breeze blowing it might not be big enough to counter the wind or a current.
