Anyone experienced removing bow railing ? V21
Plan to remove, " waterproof" and re set the bow railing over the winter.
Wondering if it's a straight matter of just uncrewing or any surprises ? |
Plan for the worst and hope for the best. It is probably thru bolted. The nuts probably will not come off the bolts. You will need a second set of hands, pb blaster, etc. I tried drilling out the heads on the screws on some railing on the 18 Fisherman. All I did was burn bits up. I say spray them with pb blaster and you might get lucky and they unscrew.

They are thru-bolted, but on that newer, well-kept V21 they should back right out ;P It's a long reach, so a 2nd set of hands will definitely help, but I extended my deep well ratchet with a piece of PVC so that I could wedge it against the inside of the bow and hold the bolt while I turned the screws from the topside. Worked out fine and I think I only had to drill out two.

I did mine this past spring .I didn't even try to unscrew them even though I probably have done .But with no help I simply drilled the heads off the screws .Job didn't take long at all.

Like said...pre spray w/PB Blaster...I've personally removed two bow rails off V20 and had good luck w/grabbing the hex-nut underneath w/a pair of vice-grips...they'll turn around til they stop against the inside hull...also like said, yours is a bit newer boat and I know better kept than the two I've worked on...

tie a string to the vice grips.... makes retrieval much easier.
