How are some running 225 hp on V20's and 21s ?
These boats are rated for up to 200 hp correct ?
So for those running 225's.......... how do you get insurance ? Or not, but please let me know, Thanks |
Some are rated for 235HP, and once you go over 20 feet I'm pretty sure they can't hold the USCG reccomendation against you. Once you cross over 20 feet regs regarding max HP changes. When I had my HYDRASPORT all they cared about was what was on it, not what it was rated for when I got insurance on it.

I can see the insurance company with the wellcraft......."550 horsepower??.....um, let me check on that.....":sly:

Insurance! On a 25 year old boat! Only insurance I have is extra bilge pumps.
|
Liability, medical and property damage insurance. If you have an accident with injury, an attorney will contest the boat's overpowered. I've owned two V20's and both had plaques with max hp ratings. It's a personal decision. Therm is right, the older V20's were rated for 235 hp.

I've heard that the rating went up to 200 or 225 when wellcraft raised the transom to 25".
|
Progressive specifically asked me "how fast does it go?" LOL! Not fast enough. There is no insurance for mine at the present.
|
make sure you say under 50mph :)
|
i have ins on mine, but it is mostly for the exposure when on the trailer. i found out that most car ins covers your vehicle and trailer & the damage that the trailer might do, but not what is on that trailer.
|
I am not over my rating but the ins has never asked me anything about the rating
