Value of/market for a 3.7?

Thinking about converting my 22' Grady to a bracketed outboard from the 190 HP 3.7 Mercruiser. I figure since I already have a brand new bracket sitting in my basement and I will be looking for an older outboard (like a 2.4 carbed Merc 200), the overall cost of the project shouldn't be that high.

So, I was wondering if you guys might be able to give me an idea about whether or not it would be more beneficial to try and sell the 3.7 as a complete running engine/drive combo, separate the major components, or part the entire thing out? Unknown hours on the engine and 3 cyls have compression right around 155, the 4th was at 92 when I last ran it a few weeks ago. Fires up and idles smooth as silk though. I bought the boat with a bad fuel tank so I haven't had it on the water and therefore can't comment on how it performs under load.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, thought I would respond mainly so you don't feel snubbed. I guess the others didn't really know as they probably know more about outboards.

I can only suggest to look through ebay and craigslists to see what others are asking.

Good luck!

there were a lot of boat that had 3.7s that nothing else will fit other than a 3.0L. Bertrams, Chris Crafts, Stingrays, etc. IF your motor is in good shape otehr than the low compression, it may be worth some $, What year model is the set up? Was a it a salt motor, or fresh?
