easy answer, Ford didn't make the 7.3 engine, International made the short block, Caterpillar made the heads, later on, they formed an independent company called Alliance Diesel, they still produced parts for the 6.9 and 7.3. The EPA killed the 7.3, it wouldn't meet emisions. Ford cheapened up the 7.3's before they put them in their chassis. BTW, I have 347,000 on the 7.3 in my van, I need to find an International emblem for the grill. When I replace this van, I probably will have to go to a D-Max GM van, I don't compare the 6.0L to either one, last year of the 7.3 was 03, GM started using the Dmax in Vans in 06. Figured I may be able to afford a used van, I know I can't afford a DMax truck

Those were some sweet Ford rides the other day. I personally liked the tow truck. Satisfaction of hooking up a ricer knowing that your truck is 3 or more decades older and made in America.
Just poking, didn't mean damage. Best deal I ever got on a truck was a 1976 F100 2WD. Simple to work on. Installed a 300-6 and granny box out of a wrecked 4x4 and ditched the 3 on the tree. Had $500 wrapped up in that truck and would still have it today if it had power steering.
Hottest latemodel is that Platinum Edition 4Dr 4WD in Metallic Blue and Titanium if you please. The tailgate trim reminds me of some earlier models that I thought looked just right..
