Interesting trailer tire blow out experience
With one fender rusted out and flapping in the wind, I started out for J&B Boat, approx 15 miles away.
I get about 5 miles down route 295, and motorist signals issue with my rig. Thought it was the rusted fender, but it was a rear tire going flat. I pull off and yup, it's flat but I decide to keep going on the shoulder because - it's a dual axle trailer. At 25 mph the flat tire starts smoking, so i slow to 20 and I get there just fine. I took some pictures and will post. Nice benefit to having the dual axle trailer. Got the new dual axle trailer with stainless brakes and brake lines. |
New trailer, sounds nice. Tandems are good that way. That motorist probably saved you a tire change on the side of the road.

On a trip a few years ago in july, driving thur monroe nc an elderly lady was waving at us(my wife an i) so i just waved back and proceeded along. At the next stop light she pulls up beside us and rolls her window down to say excuse me sir your trailer brakes are on fire!!!! I said thank you and rolled my window back up. My wife asked what did that lady say? I said she says your f#!*#! Your trailer brakes are on fire!bad news is we dont trailer brakes!! Of course we had throwen a bearing out in the left rear wheel.fortunately there was a boat dealer about two miles up the road. So after 3/12 hrs and new bearing we were back on the road again. If you trailer your boat on long trips s!** is bound to happen.

Any idea whether the flapping fender caused the flat?...whether it did or not, it's generally a good idea to have parts and other things SECURE on your trailer prior to towing it down a public road...it could have caused problems for others as well...:head: That having been said...guess what'll happen to me next tow... |
Funny you mention the fender. When i took the 18 to the ramp on the way back the fender just fell right off then the trailer run over it causing it to fly up and put a gouge in the side of the hull. I was very fortunate nobody was beside me. That wiuld have been bad. Then when i bought my V back last year i lost the Whole hub off the spindle! This was a brand new trailer in 2006! The people i sold the boat to neglected the trailer. Right now it needs two crossmembers, fenders, hubs etc.

I say " flapping in the wind" as a note to how rusted out it was - wouldn't drive down a highway with a fender about to literally fall off. Poetic license Reelapeelin. |
