Need advise on leaning post install
Any of you guys that can give me some advise would be much appreciated. Bought a leaning post last year to install on FishBones.
Came out of a Contender, size and height are perfect. There is a big issue for me though. As you can see in the first photo it appears it will install in a great spot, BUT, there is no access to that area at all, even if I remove the fuel tank cover as there is a very large and thick stringer that runs bow to stern on each side just about where the seat/feet will be bolted in. This stringer does not make contact with the floor apparently in this area and there is a 1.5" gap between the bottom of the floor and the stringer. Plus since it is a no wood boat there also is nothing inside the stringer, sounds hollow when you tap it. So since I cannot just use long strong screws and go straight into the stringers I decided to do the toggle type bolts. There in lies the problem, I cannot drill through the floor and then push the toggle set up down through it and pull it back up, the stringer will prevent that. Any advise would be a big help. I don't think just 3/8 screws in the floor would be stout enough for my svelte figure against that seat even though there are four holes per leg. I wish it was so. http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...ltz/002-13.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...ltz/001-14.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...ltz/003-12.jpg |

So after talking on the phone with Dave (Spare) I went out and pulled of my seat and pedestal.
Guess what, no big center hole ( YEA ) and six stainless 3/8 oval heads wood screws going right through the about 1" Thick wood floor. http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...ltz/003-12.jpg |

Sorry Kracker, decided to keep and install after talking to my adviser, going to do it in the next couple of days.
She is a well built post, looking forward to using it. Come on up and we will test it out together! |

Get your kraker Arse up here for the rendezvous in July, meet a bunch, do some fishing, some drinking may happen, check out some V's and a wayward Hydrasport.

Yep...just use the screws and bed w/4200 and you oughtta be good to go...worst that can happen is if the start coming loose, you can uninstall, take up the fuel cover and put it back w/backing plates under the floor...if there's that much room between top of stringer and bottom of floor, it shouldn't be too hard......wish I was up there to give you a hand...so you don't f__k it up...:zip: |
I have a 1990 v 20 center console and installed a really nice leaning post from a 2004 26 rabolo. Its a little wide for my v but comfortable as heck. My1990 model has a hatch cover behind the gas tank hatch and i cut holes and attached (pie plates) ? inside the well. I was able to reach through and through bolt the rear legs of the leaning post , however the front legs are screwed into floor with 5200 on the flanges and it is really stout. Newby here and still trying to figure out how to post pics.
