Kicker Advice Needed
 

I want to buy a 9.9 4 stroke to use as a kicker on my V20. It is an I/O version. I see different shaft lengths available and don't know what I need. I would like to have the kicker attached to the I/O for steering. What measurements should I make to determine what shaft length is appropriate. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Spring salmon is right around the corner and I want to be ready.

Everyone has an opinion on where and how to mount thier kicker, and if it works, then they were totally correct. I use an Easy-In" type of mount that lets me adjust the depth of my kicker depending on the weight that I'm carrying. (Also, it was free which was a big reason for using it) But I like it and it works, so for me it's the right choice. If you get a fixed mount type they tend to be closer to the transom. You'll have to get rid of one of your swim platforms. In all cases you want your engine to hang so that when you're using it in the vertical positon the anti-ventilation plate (some ppl wrongly call it the cavitation plate) is about a half inch to an inch under the water. As to the steering question, most kits are fully adjustable so that you can adjust it to your needs. :beer:

I located a great deal on a Yamaha 9.9 High Thrust long shaft. After much research, I'm going to use a Garelick 71091 bracket. The only issue is that they say you should remove the motor when trailering. The motor weight is 99 lbs and awkward to handle. Any thoughts on this? :clap:

If the bracket is rated for the weight and securely attached, I see no reason to remove it for trailering.
