Who knows what's under this section of a V21 ?

Does anyone know why there's a relatively small but isolated/ trapped hollow under the " floor" inside the transom battery and oil tank compartments ?

I mean below the floor that the battery and oil tank sit on - port and starboard rear of a V21.

This hollow doesn't empty into the bilge, and doesn't empty into the hull below the bilge........where the bottom screw out plug to the hull is either.

Previous owner had apparently drilled a hole in that little floor section, I suppose so if water accumulated inside the oil tank compartment during washing, it could drain below.
I determined that water doesn't have anywhere to go. It appears to be a " trapped" hollow without drainage. I stuck a tube down and suctioned out the small amount of water that was trapped down there. I plan to re plug the hole after I'm certain water can't get in from any other source. The only access I see is the deck drain hole with the short tube that runs to the outer hull drain. This appears to be dry.

If it is as I believe - basically a " boxed in hollow" maybe Wellcraft did it to limit flooding if the floor drains did start to leak.

I've peered down and in all over this area with bright light and it seems fully contained and separate.

Youre right it's a air pocket to help with floatation, Some boat builders did this to help with floatation without weight from foam.

Interesting, thanks for the reply.
