resin wax removal?
 

Is sanding and scuffing the only way to remove wax? Or can you get most of it off with acetone? just curious, I loaded up alot of sandpaper the other night sanding some wood on the boat. Im learning constantly to always try to wet on wet whenever possible.Thanks fellas!!

Are you talking about the aminie blush? If so, do not sand it. That will only force it into the sanding marks. Just use soap and warm water. Do not waste the acetone, it doesn't work well. Blush is water soluble.

I hot coated some pieces before I installed them the sat in the garage for 2 weeks before I installed them. I always figured it was the wax added to the resin for curing reasons.

Are you using Epoxy or Poly resin?

Polyester.

Now that I think about it I remember you bought Poly resin.

If so that is surfacing wax. For future reference, buy laminating Poly for initial layup and finishing or "waxed" Poly for the final coat. You can actually buy all laminating resin and the wax additive for it. The laminating resin stays sticky so there is minimal prep between coats. You use the finishing resin for the last coat as it has wax that rises to the surface for a hard finish. I know this info may not help if you are just hot coating some pieces but it will definitely come in handy for things like your transom etc..

I would wash the piece down with a water/acetone mix followed by a light sand, repeat as necessary.
