Hank III
I'm not a fan of all of his stuff, but some of his country is really good stuff. I've recently gotten hooked to his rebel country as some call it, and can't stop listening to it. He turned out like his granddad, even looks like him. Thought I would share some of his stuff I can't stop listening to. I would avoid his stuff he does with as-sjack(remove the dash) as it is pretty hard stuff, but alot of his stuff is just good country music not like this hip hop crap they call country now.

His lyrics are interesting but can't handle the voice generally.
Now I will show someone I really like, to look at and listen to, Jennifer Nettles, Sugarland This is their performance with some fellow named Matt Nathanson at the CMA's Now this woman can sing to me all day any day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvdX5yMHvxc |
And Kenny is what i think of when I think country
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhtK2...eature=related He is great, got a real good voice |
And in all actuality I have been listening to the King of Texas, George Strait for close to thirty years. He is my all time favorite country music guy.

I've been listening to Hank III for years, I also like his band A**jack. I am a metal head though and generally cannot stand country except the classics.
Here's my favorite Hank III song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VoU5kmqasY. I am not a fan of weed or whiskey but this song is just great. |
I agree with Willy in that his voice isn't his best attribute. I do like his songwriting\melodies\guitar playing and sound overall. Glad to see back to basics instead of pop country...
Sort of like a Neil Young thing, great songwriter but a not a smooth voice. I also tried a listen to As-jack, Tennessee driver?, little too in your face for me. rkc |
I like some metal, but his metal is just way to much for me. His voice doesn't bother me as it reminds me of what country singers used to sound like, not the new sound of the hollywood type country. I persoanlly don't care for sugarland or kenny as they are to pop for me. George Strait is pretty good. For newer country I like Billy Currington's people are crazy and songs like that. I just can't get into the new age country with the pop beat to it. Everytime I listen to Carry Underwood all I can hear is Britney Spears, just not my taste(although she is easy to look at).

What country singers used to sound like?
Wow. Jim Reeves Patsy Kline Willie Nelson Emmylou Harris Mickey Gilly Crystal Gayle Tammy Wynette Johnny Cash Just a few of my favs off the top of my head, there have actually been a great many country singers who could really sing, Willie sounds a little rough the past 8-10 years but he used to sing pretty well, evil weed demon and age got to him. I am someone who grew up listening to several who really could not sing for sh!t, Bob Dillon for one or Tom Petty for example But I actually feel some should stick to song writing or playing an instrument cause they just can't sing a lick Part of what I don't like about 90% of the past decades music is they just can't sing. The average band of the sixties and seventies for example had lead singers who could really sing, take Gary Pucket and the Union Gap as a prime example. Jay black and the Americans. Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge. I have come to appreciate more the really good voices to listen to, there are a lot of them out there, new and old. |
I like country, rock, and some metal and prefer the classics or the old farts in all three. I've kinda gotten into Jamie Johnson for more of a retro classic country sound. Don't really care for Hank 3, but agree with his idea behind Put the *ick Back in Dixie.
Ya'll give these a listen, Jamie Johnson, Can't Cash my Checks--Reminds me of a few people I know. http://youtu.be/o9mhs9mD7dc Luke Bryan, Muckalee Creek Water--Describes a few on this board I believe. http://youtu.be/_h-_X3-j5os Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard, Poncho and Lefty http://youtu.be/JxzJAF1BxP4 Tom Petty, Trip to Pirate's Cove--A cool newer one from Petty you'll never hear on the BS Radio http://youtu.be/LDStHQLSQWQ Iron Maiden, The Longest Day (Expand for Lyrics)--About some of those from the greatest generation that gave the ultimate sacrifice. http://youtu.be/BSJ8rDlBZ_IJethro Jethro Tull, Part of the Machine http://youtu.be/F5iQ69z1uSM The Highwaymen http://youtu.be/uw1bHaUk1CM |

Fun Fact : If you have seen the Billy Currington video for "People are Crazy" you have seen my brother-in-law's recently deceased father. He is the old man Billy meets in the bar an coincidentally dies. Billy is from the city of Rincon right outside of Savannah and grew up with my brother-in-law. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKpQRjj_WbU The only country I really care for is the classics and a few from the 90's. I like "in your face metal" though:party: |
