3.7 Starter

Was wondering if anyone knows what kinda of other starters will fit on the 3.7 I/O. Mine went out on it and was wondering if there was a cheaper one you could get. Also is there any type of automotive starters that you can put on? Any help would be useful. :head:

There are aftermarket offerings much cheaper than the original mercruiser. Don't put an automotive starter in your boat, the 3.7 was never offered in an auto so you will have a tough time finding an automotive starter that would work anyway aside from risking a big boom and lots of bits scattered in the water.

Few years ago I ordered an marine starter for my 170 Mercruiser from Advance auto. Big mistake!! It was a marine replacement but was a piece of crap! I had to replace the brushes, the bendix and the solenoid this year. If I had to do it again Id order from Ebasicpower.com like Spareparts said. They are great and get your parts out to you fast!

Check around on the internet, there alot of good dealers like Lighthouse marine, Wholesale Marine and Ebasicpower.

The bendix went on my 3.7 last year. No marine suppliers around here carried the part, so I went to the local NAPA and the guy was able to find the starter and parts in a catalog. Not sure, but think these were used in GM V8s.

There's an ARCO part # at the link, which can be crossed with other suppliers.

I wouldn't buy one from an aftermarket parts house like AUTOZONE, ADVANCE, NAPA or the likes if it was my boat. They are turning out crap for a premium price now since they all come with lifetime warranty's. Your paying for the warranty, not the quality of work. Buy the ARCO unit though and don't look back. They make top shelf parts from all of there stuff I have used.

I wouldn't get anything from Autozone or Advance for your boat, but NAPA has some kind of deal with Sierra Parts(marine parts supplier), they distribute them thru NAPA, you pay thru the nose for them, but on a Saturday afternoon, they can be a life saver
