The Blues

Three of us, Fred, Mike and myself went out Saturday, we fished the Reach Channel. We were hoping the Stripers were around, not the case, Blues and more Blues, 7 -11 pounds. Last week we had them up to 15 pounds. We had over 15 on the deck, not counting the countless runoffs. All fish were returned HAPPY!!

I actually like bluefish if they are caught, immediately bleed out, then cleened and brined properly. I've ate quite a few of them, and my uber picky wife has as well. And she won't eat anything that smells or tastes fishy, but she will eat bluefish when I prepare em right.

That sounds like too much work. I'd rather throw em' back and hit the fish market on the way home! I keep blues for cut bait.

I second you on blues being tasty when immediately bled and I am also one who doesn't like to eat anything fishy. Well, sometimes maybe if I have to.

I don't believe in hitting the fish market, I'd rather catch my own.

Are we still talking about fish here?

charlie_the_tuna 10-24-2011 11:12 PM

hey chumster, dont forget..... they aint as common down there as they are up here. to all you guys who havent been up to your a$$e$ in blues, this is a fish that you can count on not only to save a day of fishing but to ruin a day of fishing just as fast.
you can pretty much go out anytime, anywhere and catch up some blues for fun. on the other hand when you're out there shark fishing or some other type of fishing and you get a mack rigged up just right and it's out there "swimming" for mr mako....... here comes a 20 pound bluefish to cut that mackerel right the hell in half.
they'll make you nuts but they're one of the most fun fish we have up around these parts. and they pull from the minute they're born to the minute they die. hard fighting fish.

Oh, I love catching Blues and agree with the great fight they give. It's the eating part that I don't get. But hey, that's just me.
I think that the Bluefish, like Stripers are on the decline. There is a real problem going on and management specialists are failing at recognizing it. Yes, there were a lot of big fish taken this year including a new Striped Bass world record, but they are not looking at the younger population of Bass. The same thing happened in the '80's just before the crash of the Striped Bass population. They need to pull their heads out of their azzes. For starters, the limit should be uniform up and down the coast. The limit should also be 1 fish at say 32-34 inches and place a moratorium on commercial fishing of Striped Bass (personally, I would like it to end completely).

Anyways, this is way off topic. Sorry Giorgio, nice catches. I love catching Blues. I was just messing with RKC. :hi:

Way to go Giorgio. I always look for your posts to keep me informed on which areas to fish over here on the Island. Thanks.
