1988 Seadrive 1986 Evinrude parts interchange
As everyone knows I have a 1986 V6 150hp for sale.
I have a 1988 Seadrive V6 225hp on my 23' and am wondering if the lower unit is the same between these engines. I am think it might be worth keeping the lower unit and just sell the powehead. What do you guys think? |
Re: 1988 Seadrive 1986 Evinrude parts interchange
My guess is no - not the same lower unit. But its just a guess. Seems to me I remember reading somewhere - that OMC lower units were different from the 150/175 to the 225. Ya gotta figure the 225 lower unit to be much beefier to handle the extra power.

It should bolt up, but it won't really work as the gear ratio's are different. Skools....where you at on this one...

yes same lower unit. will fit perrrrrrrrrfectly. Worth keeping yes for sure. Ratio is same and all.

Re: 1988 Seadrive 1986 Evinrude parts interchange
oh and on ratio that is same on those but wouldn't matter you could just prop the motor to work with the ratio you have in the lower unit. i have seen twin V6's with twin V4 lower units using just a higher pitch to fix the ratio.

Thanks all for the response
One more question, I believe the 225 is a 25" motor and the 150 is a 20". Is this a show stopper? thanks |

won't fit unless you find an old drive ext for that unit or have a shop swap shafts in the 2 units
