Engine swap Well guys this is what I got. I have an 88 V20 with an 3.7 I/O. Since I have had this boat I have changed out alot of parts on this thing. Right now the starter is out on the boat and I was thinking that it might be time for me to change out the motor and repower this thing. What type of motor should I go with? I was thinking about getting the 3.0 but I have seen that some have been going with the 4.3. Or should I just stick with my 3.7. Any input would be nice. Thanks |

The 3.7L is about a perfect a match as there is for a V-20 in my opinion. Sounds like it may be time to just pull your 3.7L out and go through everything. |

Hey Saltlife728, I'm with the others. I'd stick with the 3.7, they're great motors when taken care of. They've got plenty of power and are good on gas. I pulled mine down and went completely through it when I bought it a few years ago, and its been pretty much trouble free since. They are a great match for the V20! |

i agree keep what you got im in the process of rebuilding a 3.7 , the cost of a engine swap is too much for the value of the boat. If u only need a fishing boat stick with the 3.7 internal engine parts are cheap as there 1/2 a ford big block .if u want a faster boat buy another v20 with the hp u want:clap: |

I cannot speak for the performance of the 3.7. It probably does make sense to go through it and get it running well. Having said that, however, I have a 4.3 litre V6 and I like it a lot. Good top end (about 45) and pretty fuel efficient. |
