Engine swap

Well guys this is what I got. I have an 88 V20 with an 3.7 I/O. Since I have had this boat I have changed out alot of parts on this thing. Right now the starter is out on the boat and I was thinking that it might be time for me to change out the motor and repower this thing. What type of motor should I go with? I was thinking about getting the 3.0 but I have seen that some have been going with the 4.3. Or should I just stick with my 3.7. Any input would be nice. Thanks

The 3.7L is about a perfect a match as there is for a V-20 in my opinion. Sounds like it may be time to just pull your 3.7L out and go through everything.

Hey Saltlife728, I'm with the others. I'd stick with the 3.7, they're great motors when taken care of. They've got plenty of power and are good on gas. I pulled mine down and went completely through it when I bought it a few years ago, and its been pretty much trouble free since. They are a great match for the V20!

i agree keep what you got im in the process of rebuilding a 3.7 , the cost of a engine swap is too much for the value of the boat. If u only need a fishing boat stick with the 3.7 internal engine parts are cheap as there 1/2 a ford big block .if u want a faster boat buy another v20 with the hp u want:clap:

I cannot speak for the performance of the 3.7. It probably does make sense to go through it and get it running well. Having said that, however, I have a 4.3 litre V6 and I like it a lot. Good top end (about 45) and pretty fuel efficient.
