Thinking about a V20

Hello all,

I'm new here...thinking about getting a V20 a family fishing boat and runabout. I've been looking at various 17-20ft cc and dc boats for a few months and am now thinking V20 might be the ticket for my family of 5. There are several boats available locally that I may check out this weekend, and was wondering if you all already knew anything about them or had any thoughts or advice. Links are below...any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Dan

I vote for the '79 with the yamaha, I like the boat with the honda, but it may be a little underpowered.

any of the last three i agree the 130 may be a little light i like the 79 best and the 78 would be my second choice

Thanks for the responses. I thought the boat with the Honda 130 might be a little underpowered, but it seems like a decent deal for a Honda 4 stroke. I'm going to try to go see the 78 with the 200hp 2005 Mercury tomorrow. $5K seems like a pretty good price for that boat given the age of the motor.

Draglink, I live in Williamsburg. I get up to Gloucester a fair amount as I race my sailboat on the York on Wednesday nights. This'll be my first power boat.

Just heard back from the owner of the boat on the Eastern Shore (with the Yamaha) - its already sold.

Forgot to ask...are the ones off Rt. 17 on Craigslist, or advertised anywhere else? Maybe I need to take a drive up that way...

Hey Dan, I havent seen them on Craigslist, and I havent stopped to look, so I dont know price or condition. You must race out of Saras Creek....come out of Yacht Haven? There is one very close if so

1. Tidemill Road, just past Yacht Haven. Go a couple more lights to 7-11 and Sweet Madelines restaurant. 17 intersects Tidemill Rd, take a right at Sweet Maddys and there is a V for sale just over Tidemill bridge on the left

2. and 3. Gloucester Courthouse. Take 17 north up towards Walmart...bear right at 17 Business North just before the Walmart. Just before the light at the courthouse there are 2 side by side for sale at Hodges and Bryant Heating and Appliance

4. 17 North past past Glo Courthouse, about a mile past ARK(about 4 or 5 miles past Walmart) on the left

Oh and there is a center console that keeps popping up on Craigslist in Mathews.....

Good luck, keep us posted!!

Mike

Disclaimer- just saw the one on Tidemill, Im on that road almost daily, been a couple weeks since I have been up courthouse way so dont know their status....

search thru the repairs section on this forum, get familiar with the most common issues with V 20s and what to look for when you go look at them

Thanks, will do. Can I get decent access to the stringers through the hatches in the deck?
