06/16 trip - not exactly as planned
Well, the plan was to be the 1st @ the ramp around 4ish and head to a place were I figured would be holding scup (we were planning on filling the live well and then using them for stripers) and a few Bass @ that. We were the 3rd boat @ the ramp, which isn’t too bad, but the 1st boat was having troubles and the second boat was not ready to load. (I hate when people get ready @ the ramp!!! >:()
We got to our 1st destination a little before 5 and drop lines. 3 pole out with pogie chunks and two fishing for bait. Oh we got bait a ton of “bait fish” but no scup! Nothing but cut cunners, bergals what ever you want to call them… ::) So for the heck of it we filled the well with them, why not, and it was pretty fun catching them. So we staid there until about 8ish, two decent bass in the boat, to 20lbs. OK I lie, one decent bass to @ 20lbs and my tail pincher guppy that came in @ 28.1inches :-/. So we decide to chase a few pods of blues around why we wait for the tide, and wind to pick up so we can start Flukeing. Oh it did, it went from dead calm, to white caps in about 1 hour. Well long story short if we had last years regs. We would have limited out on fluke, but we threw back more 18 inch fluke then you can imagine and managed to bring a couple home for the table. Even with everything that could go wrong, did (well the V ran like a charm  ) it ended up being a pretty fun day. ;D 8) http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...oat06-1613.jpg my buddy with his 1st fish on a new rod, and 1st keepers on my boat http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...oat06-1612.jpg |

cool. glad y'all had a good time. one day i gonna catch one of those stripers. when i get my parot wet. thats what i gonna start targeting. nobody fishes them here. but i know we have some. just dont know (yet) how to catch them. state record here is just over 7 pounds! i figure thats my best shot at a state record here.
is a fluke the same as a flounder? tasty little buggers if they are. we can keep them (flounder) at 12" no bag limit. any way, looks like a blast. tx for the pics. |

Sean,
We went out yesterday at Point Judith and no keeper fluke whatsoever, all throwbacks between 16/18" >:(. we had a blast nevertheless and between the three of us we must have pulled in 25 shorts. Got into some ugly type fish that had a long tail, two legs, and what looked like ears on them. My buddy said they were skate(sp) ??? but then I thought skate were flat like small stingrays? All I know whatever they were they were uglier then me. LOL |

Looked very similar but the two legs seemed longer, but yes I believe that's what they were, skate. They sure are some ugly fish/creatures |
Re: 06/16 trip - not exactly as planned
They are big in Europe,
they cut them up and eat them. I catch a lot of them from the surf, but I just can't get myself to try one. :P |
