Smoker build and meat...

Built me a UDS out of a drum. I got a buddy that has two and Ive eaten some good stuff off of them throughout hunting season up there. I decided to build me one. (colors are Auburn..WAR EAGLE!)

I did a sirloin last weekend that turned out pretty good.

Did this butt last night/yesterday

Apple wood rub and smoked with cherry wood. I pulled it at close to 7 hours and then wrapped it up with a little apple juice and slow cooked 3 more. Falling apart. Man i love this new "hobby"

Here is the build for them.

http://www.theqjoint.com/forum/showt...um-smoker-(UDS)

REALLY simple..I built my charcoal basket out of expanded metal..bought a weber 22" replacement grill for cooking rack and other than that had all the materials on hand. I got about 30 bucks in it total.

Works great on a normal sized load of charcoal (one chimmey full plus a tad) it will hold 200-250 for 12 hours+

Done a chicken yesterday evening...this craps addictive. Im looking at stray cats in a whole new light now. :bat:

good looking smoker.it looks like it's be easy to double up on the meat racks for twice the capacity.
questions, the valve at the bottom,is that used for air flow? and,can the barrels be bought new, unused?

cfelton 03-15-2011 10:56 PM

Hey Stink thats sweet! I might have ta try that. I can get the barrels from work free.

Stinky_Hooker 03-16-2011 09:27 AM

Thanks all!

cfelton, yes the valve is to control air flow. That combined with the other nipples and caps (or you can just use the fridge magnets) allow adjustment for airflow and temp control.

Mine has been holding good with about half valve open and one hole open about half way..give or take. Changes with temps and humidity of course.

Sweet! Good job Stink!!
