Has anyone added a tilt trim gauage to a 90's model Merc?

My 89 sport 20 has a 94 200hp black max offshore Merc, everthing I have found said I need a sending unit. can't seem to locate one online, but ebay has OMC sending unit which I thought I could just mount it to the motor bracket as long as the lever moves with the bracket that tilts the motor.
any suggestions?

they have microfish on line, use your serial number to identify the correct engine(watch it that soem 20 hp motors were caleld 200 years agao, you need to find the V-200), let me know what part number you need or try and find one on ebay

that motor should have a sending unit on it. It's mounted on the pin that holds the top end of the tilt cylinder in place. It has a brown and white wire comming from it routed into the cowl. it should be laying there by the main engine harness.

Cool I do have one single brown wire running to that point, so that must be it.
Do you know will I need any special trim gauage or will any I find work?

is it a brown/white wire or a tan(temp sensor) wire? Did you see the sender? It's small like a little hockey puck. Any trim gauge should work with it. I think I have a merc trim gauge laying around. if I can find it its yours if you want it.

I probably got one laying around somewhere if Pete can't find his

thanks I'll check it out. I am redoing my dash and I want to add a trim gauge and temp gauge, from what I have read I can just tap off the wire going to the temp horn in the dash, do you know?

takes a different sender for temp, the alarm is an on/off type sender(actually a switch), where as a temp gauge sender is a variable resistance sender to actuate the gauge. I personally don't worry about a temp gauge, I'd use a tach, fual gauge, volt gauge and a water pressure gauge if it were mine(thats what I intend to put in my boat), make sure your temp alarm is working

on your motor one of the temp switches also is a sender. I think it is in the port head. Check the cylinder heads. between the spark plugs there will be a sensor with wires comming out of it. there is one on each head. The one with one wire(tan/blue) is the overheat switch. The sensor with a few wires(tan,tan/blue,black)is the temp sender. There should be a connector for it by your main engine harness.

Ok this is what I see, on the left side looking at the back of the engine is a solid tan wire that hooks to the harnes plug that goes to the gauges. right side is the tan with blue stripe that goes to a terminal block then goes in to the wraped motor wires looks like it changes into a blue with black stripe
So is it the solid tan wire that is the sending temp wire?
You guys are awsom thats for all the input.
