Skipjack Tuna Did some fishing yesterday and came home with this, properly bled immediately upon catching. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...derFL/Tuni.jpg They are great to fish and my old Sealine 600 was screaming, even with the drag almost all the way! :nice: |

Heehee.... seeing the snowstorm they just got plastered with, I'm thinking it's gonna be a little bit colder than that. God has his own special way of punishing people that taunt us northern folk with fishing pictures...... :you: |

Nice! Do they eat pretty good? A captain told me the bigger ones were pretty good and of course they use the smaller ones for bait. Caught one this past summer on a teaser line hooked to the cleat. The night before I removed all of the hooks from the teaser lines - or so I thought. While I was busy fighting a fish my buddy yells there's a false albacore hitting the teaser. I didn't even look told him to yank it away and see if it will hit a hook bait. He yanked it in the boat LOL. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_4...haneSkippy.jpg |

Builder how was it? If it makes you feel any better RKC I only kept my skippy for crab bait. I was too busy worrying about eating all of the YFT and dolphin to worry with it. :hide: |

skipjack story 2 Attachment(s) I had a tussle with a 9 pound Skipjack on an ultra light spinning outfit (Penn 420) and 6 lb fireline. I was in NJ, in 35 ft near the beach, sight casting to what I thought were false albies (bonita in FL?). Damn near spooled me, went around the boat 7 times. Got it in, snapped a photo, weighed it and let it go. Showed my brother in FL the pic years later he said "That's a skipjack, did you eat it? Theyr great" I have since caught plenty of false albies but nary a one skipjack |

Wish I'd eaten that sucker. On Iron Chef last night the chef's had to incorporate skipjack in their dishes. Looked great. Dangit!! |
