johnson 200hp prop choice I have a v20 sportfish. I'm looking at getting a 98 johnson 200hp. would a 15"/17 pitch aluminum prop be a good choice. I use it for fishing and I have a 38 gallon bait tank I keep on the back. I'm more interested in most efficient at cruising speed than hole shot. Thanks in advance |

That is a good starting point. You probably will do even better with a 19" pitch but I'd start fully loaded with the 17" and see if you are happy with it. I'm running a 19" stainless but usually run lightly loaded (only 40 gallons of fuel capability), 43mph is no problem with two people and the regular fishing stuff. |

I''m right with Tsubaki. I have a 91' Johnson 200 and a 19p SS prop on the back, and I see just about the same results as he does. I'd stay with the 17p prop for right now and then check my WOT RPM's to see where I was running. As long as you're in the area that the manufacturer of your engine says is correct for WOT then you're right where you should be. Remember, more pitch = less RPM's. Less pitch = more RPM's. |
