Jersey Boys, it's time

Hit Sandy Hook today on my friend Jeff's boat, using eel's on the outgoing tide and had four in the boat, two or three run offs, one lost at the boat and two where they ripped our eel right off.
They ran 32 to 36 inches and that 36 incher was mine, gave me a nice fight.

Nice!......Fish!

Were you inside the hook or around on the outside?

Cam 11-07-2010 09:04 AM

Nice fish by the way....I need to have one of those days myself.

Cam we were just outside, second set of rips past the false hook. Out going tide is when you want it, at the start of the tide too. Bite has turned off for everyone I have talked to about an hour and a half or so after the tide switch. May be the same on an in coming I don't know.
Eels seem to be the ticket if no birds working, if there are birds working jigging metals is the ticket, Deadly Dicks, etc.
The night bite is real good I am hearing on clams anchored up on Roamers or Flynns, or right on the edge of the Ambrose. Chumming low with chum baskets, if you chum high in the water column be prepared with wire line leaders as the gator blues are in also and everyone is saying they are humungous.

Also just for info, you want to be using a three way rig with about a two foot or a little more dropper for your weight, and about five feet of leader with a single hook.
It seems that ticking the bottom is not the way to go, four to one hits by the stripes when the eel was a couple of feet off the bottom instead of being dragged along the bottom.
At least that was our experience, we had one set up with a fish finder rig and one with a three ounce barrel weight on the line, both would work but the three way rig with the eel up off the bottom and just the weight ticking the bottom was the ticket for the big girls.

As a matter of fact Blue Man yes it was, and it is a sweet combo, I put it on a Tsunami Rod and the fight was sweet.
