Evinrude 135hp...opinion

There's an '80s 135HP evinrude with possibly under 50hrs on it. Since my df140 engine is currently going to college :), I need to lower my budget. Any opinion on this motor? Here's the link:

I don't need to go faster than 30mph and don't mind cruising at around 25mph. However, I wonder if I'll be straining to go at these speeds with my '89 V20 center console.

Thanks,

Rey

Hey, alright! I knew there had to be some others from San Diego in the boards.

Funny I have been keeping my eyes open for an outboard and saw that one too. Two things worry me: 1. Under 50 hours for a 20 y.o. motor means a lot of time sitting (could mean bad things) 2. I could be wrong and I don't know what you need but it sure looks like a 20" shaft.

As far as HP I think 135 would be fine.

Oh and the spelling in the title cracked me up.

First off I would say that is a 74-77 135 as they went to 140's in 78 as well as changed to a trim and tit system that was all internal to the engine mounting brackets. Secondly, that many hours for a 32+ year old engine is unbelieveable unless it has been in storage for 25 years. Also remember that finding parts for some of the stuff on that dinosaur is getting TOUGH to say the least. And lastly, that is a fuel hog and a half for its size.

Cali: Yeah, I've seen a few V20s out in the bay. Nice looking boat and that's what makes me so reluctant to sell my motor-less boat. Who knows, I'm tempted to put it up for sale again on Craigs...may be...lol

Ferm: Thanks for the info. I was hoping you would respond as you seem pretty knowledgeable on outboards.

ferm forget to also tell ya it's not a true 135 hp ratings changed it's most likely a true 90 hp motor.

I started to mention that the 135HP was flywheel rated and not propshaft, but its age I hoped was enough of a deterrent as the pre early 80's ignition components are getting expensive and tougher to find I've noticed.
