Sandbar Fun

I have not run aground in a looooong time. I did have plenty of water and beer so it was kinda nice all alone. Two different boats from my community dock passed by and had two completely different reactions.

The first guy(in a 15' McKee) insisted on pulling me off. I ended up making him give up as to not burn up his 40hp Susuki. He was really worried about leaving me and made me give him my cell phone # so he could call and check on me. Good neighbor and steward of the sea.

The next guy(in a 20' CC) blew passed at full throttle, never waved and was laughing like a girl. I don't get it. I thought everyone knows to give a little wave. Nice community I live in. Good thing I wasn't dying. I waited for him at the dock and told him my new project in life was to make sure my two little boys never turned out like him.

Please give a small wave! it is the most universal way for boaters to know "you ok" "I'm ok" "ok"

just goes to show, any schmuck with ten grand can own a boat. when we're out there we call them the j e w ish fleet or the italian navy. when we were old enough my pop made us take a boating safety and navigation course and my kids will do the same.
aint personal, morons just dont know any better. this is why i have days off during the week when most of "the fleet" is at work.
and i would love a little "me time" out on the bar. just dont wanna run into it to get there.

Wow you really ran out of water.

I agree with you on the different people that blow by when you are in trouble,
and it is usually the ones that you think will not stop are the ones that do.

Just so you know, I would have definitely stopped (that is if I knew that you did have plenty of beer).

Seriously, some people suck. What was his reaction when you told him "my new project in life was to make sure my two little boys never turned out like you"?

I am guessing it probably didn't even phase him...unfortunately.

My kids start putting away tubes and skis and start looking for the tow rope when they see a boat with the cover off the motor cause they know we are headed over to offer a tow. And even though it sometimes cuts 30 minutes to an hour from their fun, they never even think to complain cause they understand we may be the ones needing help next time.

Oh, and your V looks awsome sitting there on dry land.

I made the mistake of pushing the envelope of the V20 draft! I was in a hurry to fish and took a shortcut that just wasn't holding the water I thought it was,,,,haste makes waste.

The guy didn't have much to say, kinda pretended he didn't hear me as he tide up his boat.

Me and my friends(most of them USCG licensed fishing guides) discuss this all the time. It sure is different from when we were growing up in the river. It sounds cliche but nobody waves and nobody acknowledges their wake these days.

Knock on wood I've never been stuck but I did have to get out and push one time up a narrow little creek in about a foot of water. That was interesting!

Glad you made it outta there ok. And by the way, I wouldn't have stopped for fear of getting stuck there with you.....unless I knew you had beer then I would have plowed that bar on purpose! LOL j/k of course.

Nice pic and story.

I didn't want anybody to stop, just wave......and not laugh. If I wanted someone to come over I would have lit the grill and fired up the homemade deer chorizo I had on board for lunch. Some folks carry ham sandwiches, I carry homemade deer chorizo and a baby weber.....what? Oh and I also found a great place to handline crabs on the other side of the bar!

"Don't you laugh when the hearse goes by for you may be the next to die!":you:

Great story FWB, been there. Looks like the water kept on leaving you. BTW I would stop and offer assistance as would any one of my boating friends. If they wouldn't they are no friend of mine. I keep a bottle of "Snakebite" in the boat for just such occasions. "Snakebite" so as not to offend some very nice Southern Baptist fishing friends that find their way onto the boat. Acknowledgement of wake? A thing of the past IMO.
