2002 Silverado

Today I did a some work on my Silverado...now my oil pressure gauge is acting up. When the truck is running the gauge reads normal around 40 psi at idle and maybe up to 70-75 while driving. The problem is when I turn off the engine the gauge stays between 30-40 PSI, if I turn the key back to on it drops back to zero...turn it back to off and it starts creeping up. Here are the things I did.

- replaced oil level sensor (was telling me to check oil when the level was fine)
- changed oil & filter (new brand of oil)
- removed battery to fix a small leak on the wiper fluid tank

Anyone have any experience with this? I kind of think it is the oil pressure sending unit, but I don't know if it would be working fine when the truck is running. Thanks for any help

The oil pressure guage won't go to zero when you shut it off. And even the slightest backfeed of power like when you turn on the lights can cause the needle to move.

Doesn't go to zero when I turn it off, but the backfeed doesn't seem to effect it. It will go to zero when I turn the key on but don't start it, when I turn it off it jumps right back up.

I have a 2002 Silverado with the 4.8 mine reads 0 when off and goes up when started, depending on speed and what gear I am in it will go up and down all the time. Never staying still.

I've got the 5.3 and up until yesterday my gauge did like yours, up and down when driving and zero when off. I guess I'll take it in on Monday, find out what the problem is.
