Changed the water pump on my DF 140

Last week while I was at the coast I changed the waterpump impeller and base plate on my Johnzuki DF 140. It was extremely easy to do so any of you guys who have one, don't hesitate to tackle the job yourself.

I did run into one wrinkle, after I put in the new parts, the water stream from the tell tale was WEAKER than before. After taking the thing apart and reassembling twice more, I popped off the end of the tell tale and found some chunks of salt that had built up over the years.

Once the salt was gone, it pissed like a teenager.

I guess the new pump was pushing more water and forcing the salt pieces against the hole.

I keep a piece of 80# leader around just to clean out pisser holes

I tried that at first and it seemed that nothing was blocking the hole....with the little chunks being loose, they just moved out of the way of the mono.

RB I had the same thing happen with my old 70 hp rude. Took the dang thing apart 2x to make sure I had the impeller paddles in the right direction. Finally I realized it was the salt crystals and after that I could not beat the thing in a pissin contest.

Earlier this year after a long winter's nap I took dad's 14 mckee to the lake. Cranked it up and no tell tell stream? After inspecting the output hole I notice it was gunked up with what looked like grey/black chewing gum looking stuff. I took the hose off from under the cowel, popped out the nipple for better access, straightened a fishing hook (bent barb) and removed the obstruction. I still don't know what that stuff was but it was fine after that?

I also started doing my own service on my DF140 this season. I found parts at Boats.net. Great site (for all brands of motors) , pictures, exploded views and they had the parts...pump kit, oil filter, plugs, spare gear oil plugs & gaskets, anodes at reasonable prices.
