Lobster Night

2 Attachment(s)
Well got out for the second time this season and found the lobsters again. Forgot the camera the first trip.

Pretty good trip as we hit our limit before sunrise using the bullynet from boat approach. Half way through our bully nets broke and well we had to get in the water and catch them the good ol' way.

Excellent trip.

WOW! Thats a lot of lobsters......we had some of those on the grill wrapped in foil with a lemon slice and a clove of garlic stuck in the shell when we were in the Keys last winter.

Man o man they were good.

Joe, I'm a complete newbie with those terms.. I know how to catch them in lobster traps , but what the hell is a bullynet and, after it broke, how did you catch them "the good old way" in the water? Great looking lobbers btw.. Put them in a pot with clams and mussels and OMG I'm getting hungry... Can someone say "CLAMBAKE???"..

Dohhh.

Bullynetting is done with submersible lights from the boat on the grass flats. You stand on the bow with a long pole with a net and when you spot them moving along the grass you slam em. The nets broke on me at the bend. As the net is at a 90 degree to the pole:

Traditional way for me would be in the water snorkeling with a net in one hand. You see them in the water and you put the net behind them and poke them into the net. Typically done on the reef in the rocks where they hide but it worked quite well for me when I found them on the grass. Just have to use a flashlight at night.

Fun Stuff!

WOW... Cool!!! Up north we don't have the clear water or the shallow depths... I guess that's why we use lobster pots.. But truthfully, that bullynetting seems like a great idea..wish we could use it. Thanks for the info!!

joe7670 08-10-2010 08:43 AM

6 per person in Biscayne National Park as well as in the Keys
12 per person north of Biscayne Park

We were in the Park.

Got a sitter for Wednesday night as the wife has been dying to go. Hopefully they are still out there and the commercial guys haven't slammed em all.

Great post and pics. I haven't caught lobster in the Keys in a coon's age.
