how many Holes to bilge pump?
 

Hello all.I recently repaired my transom with new wood.The previous owner had ripped out to big chunks of the fiberglass covering on each side where the water sits to be sucked out by the drain hole when docked or the bilge pump.My boat is the outboard type and I do have the big plastic cooler thing or fish holder box in the floor.It looks like when this storage box drains its water it goes straight back to the bilge area-their is one hole in the center of the floor.My question is do I need to drill a hole on each rear end side of the inner bilge area or is their only 1 drain hole in the center leading to the bilge area.My boat is a 19-6 wellcraft sunhatch!!-Thanks in advance

I will try a couple pics tomorrow if needed for an answer.I am still confused from the fumes from fiberglassing from 10 am till 5 pm.Now that its done the questions I should have asked before are suddenly popping in my head.-Heres another crazy question-can I cut out my floor and add an extra cooler?-Cut out some of my cuddy cabin floor to make into storage?-Add porthole windows?-I ask because the local you pull has a 1984 wellcraft thats the same as mine but it is an upgraded model-2 porthole windows in the cuddy cabin 1 extra cooler.I already bought the steering linkage from the boat and I cant stop thinking about all the goodies I could use.There are only 4 boats in the whole yard and the parts are very cheap .

Seems to me if you see a 20 that already has the things you are asking about done to it then that means it's possible to do. I don't know if you have the skill to do it, that would be presumptious on my part. But there are a lot of people here that have done similar projects. As a general rule of thumb, I would think that as long as you are not impacting the structural integrity of the boat you can pretty much do anything that you set your mind to doing. :head:

whadya know I posted the pic-Anyway yes the center bottom drainage hole for when the boat is out of water has yet not been drilled.My question is do I need to add a hole on each side also?Thanks Alex

I'm gonna say no. The V-20's do have large holes drilled in the left and right side stringers but water can get to the outside of the stringers through the hatches on the back, rod holders or open rod boxes. Looks like on the Sun Hatch that area may be sealed completely and probably filled with foam so if there is no way for water to get in than there is no need for it go get out.

My other concern is if that is truly the way the boat is constructed I would be afraid that if you did drill some holes water from your bilge could get in there and start soaking your foam.

I'm not 100% sure about any of this based upon that one picture and never having seen a sunhatch up close.

Thanks for your response it makes sense to me.Yes the back is all sealed for the outboard and 2 seats molded in already.I tried to lift the floor up back their but its all sealed.i can begin my next steps.
