Penn Yan

Always loved the old Penn Yans. This one looks like a freshwater beauty.

A fishing buddy got hit for a $3000 powerhead on a big V-6 outboard and decided the Penn Yan was the way to go with a Chrysler 318 direct inboard. He looked and found a 21' in need of motor overhaul and a new deck. The motor never gave him a minutes trouble. The boat ran fairly smooth and straight upwind or across the seas. Downwind was a nightmare in anything more than 2' seas. It would dive into the next wave and abruptly make a right or left turn without warning. Seems the deep forefoot and lack of an exposed rudder in the stern contribute. He named it "The Pile"....short for pile of .... I love the look of Penn Yan's and had considered them before. Might just be something the 21' hull is prone to though. I believe you could extend the rudder 6" to 12" below the tunnel and make it better.
