Curious about fuel consumption??
Love the site and would appreciate a bit of feedback on what sort of fuel consumption a guy could expect from a V20 with a 100-140 horse 4-stroke running at 25-30 miles an hour? Just doing my homework...
|
I would think as good as 12 gallons per hour to as bad as 18 gallons per hour.

My 140 Johnson/Suzuki gets 5 mpg at that speed.
Don't know what the gph is, I don't have a gauge for that....but I know its not much, no where near 14 gph.....maybe 5 gph. |
thanks
Thanks for the info.... at 5 gph a guy can afford not to have to row home!
At 12-18 gph its a different story. Better have vikings for buddies. |
randleman's numbers should be more realistic than mine.
I was basing my numbers on when my father had the V with a 140 crossflow. About 25-30mph, about 10-12 gallons per hour, 30 mile trip (2-3mpg). By comparison the 4 strokes do have considerable more hp and better fuel efficiency than the older 2 strokes. I would expect a 100 horse to be a constant strain and burn considerable more fuel than a 140 horse at the same speeds. randlemans' numbers should translate to 5-6 gallons per hour. |
I just checked last weeks fruitless fishing trip with the current setup I've got.
Burned right at 15 gallons, traveled near 55 miles, got a little better than 3.5mpg. |
