Cod and Pollock
Looks like the weather is going to cooperate and after two weekends in a row of cancellations we are going out on a head boat for an 18 hour Cod , pollock, hake trip. leaves 11:30 tonight and gets back 6:30 pm tomorrow evenening. Dont think they've been catching any cod but have been catching Pollock and jumbo porgies....
Wish me luck....I think I got the warm weather gear taken care of so I should at least be comfortable from the elements. Will take some pics. |
good luck RW, stay warm, don't forget your hands

Is that on the Big Jamaica boat?

All in all a good trip. Between the four of us we had a decent mixed bag of pollock, cod, ling and porgies...and TONS OF MONSTER SEA BASS.....damn sea bass closure!....it actually got pretty frustating after a while of pulling up double fatty sea bass from 200' only to send the back. My friggin arms are numb this morning. Couldnt lift my left arm above my head last night. Willy...you couldnt be more right...its all about the HANDS....based upon your comment I brought 3 pairs of gloves which was about 1 pair to few....took the first pair off to tie a rig, blew off the bench onto the deck conveniently right where the big ol water hose that runs constantly is....1 down, second pair I mistakenly left out on the bench while we moved which and hour and a half later were frozen rock hard with a 1/4" of ice on them . 2 down The third pair which were just regular insulated gloves almost lasted me until the tips got soaked.....then it's all over... Will post up a few pics tonight. |
sounds like a good trip  ... can't wait to see the pics ..

I usualy go 3 or 4 times a year in February for those monster sea bass, this year i think i will go the electric reel way, much easier on my arms :love::love:

Was doing a little of the "hold it out more so it looks bigger" but it was a nice fish. http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs194...._2000387_n.jpg Only 20 fares on a 125' boat.....was like a private charter. http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs174...._7686296_n.jpg http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._1652327_n.jpg Thats how I found my tackle bag and gloves after a move. http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._7507689_n.jpg |

RW next time go into a hunting shop and pick up the finger tipless neoprene jobs, wear them all the time and get a heavy pair of insulated mittens or gloves to go over them. Duck hunters and trappers along with fisherman wear them all winter. They usually come in a camo color but thats ok.
