Clang, clang clang...

Out fishin' w/a bud recently...good day, even hoisted a few over the gunwale...

But comin' back to the dock, the motor starts that gut-wrenchin' metal slappin' metal sound we all DREAD!!...leavin' out the brand so we don't get into a Ford VS Chevy type thing, but this 250 hp motor is 3 yrs and 4 months old...been routinely maintained by dealer and well taken care of...

It has a 3 yr warranty...question...what's been your experience w/mfgrs covering repairs that close out of the warranty period??...

I knew a fellow who had a Yammie and was 6 months over the warranty and the dealer talked to them for him and got the repairs done. It wasn't engine failure though.

good luck to your bud

agree with willy, if the local dealer has been involved with this motor since new, that will probably be a big factor. also if it is a "factory warranty" or after market.

Maintence records go a long way's in getting the manufacturers to help out beyond the warranty. I know you said you wanted to leave the brand out of it, but knowing what exact engine it is may help. Some engines have inherent flaws in them that the manufacturers know about and will help you out with.

most engine companies usually do the right thing if your reasonably out of warranty. I would talk to your local dealer and see if they can go to bat for you. If not you can always call customer service. Most times customers have more leverage than dealers. Like they say "the squeeky wheel gets greased".

Yamaha is very good in those types of situations, i can't say the same for Suzuki, even under warranty. Mercury are O.K too, but not as much as Yamaha. Evinrude, no experience.

I don't know boat engines, but in the car business (Mercedes-Benz / Porsche), if you have had the all the maintenance done at the dealer and your not too far out of warranty your likely to get help. Hopefully it's a factory warranty. Non factory warranties show no mercy, out is out
