water in fuel Bought my 1988 v20 5 years ago, repowered with 150 Yamaha when old motor died last year due to water in motor. Had fuel tank pumped. First time used this year - new motor died -- water in injectors. Anyone know what a new gas tank with installation should cost? Also looking for a rear bench seat like original -- anyone know where to buy original replacement (don't want pontoon style seat) Thanks |

Unless you found a problem with the tank no need to replace. You did what you needed and pumped it clean and hopefully dry. Now when you put the gas in get yourself some good Marine Stabil and fill her up. Add a little extra and try to keep it pretty full. If you dont have water seperating fuel filter get it now and install it. You have one already change it and inspect making sure it was full of water, if it had no water in it but you had enough to stop your motor either it is not working due to improper install or it is defective. Also while your at it if your fuel lines are old change them out for new more ethanol resistant types. |

Sounds like he pumped it out and then had water in it again if I am reading it right....not sure on the cost to replace but I'm sure somebody else will chime in.... |

what year is your hull?? were are your vents located?? on the older hull they are under the rub rail and can get water from splash while under way. you coul relocate them higher or put a clam shell over them so that nothing gets in. |

You ask about the rear bench seat, so sounds like you have a later model...but MJ's point is true...where are your gas tank vents located??...MJ and I had hulls w/those vents UNDER the rub rail...mine sucked water in when turning in rough water...also, check all your hoses and connections...you never know...do you ever smell gas?...if so, something's open somewhere... |

My fuel cap was missing it's o-ring every time it rained a little water got in, check the simple things first. Second check the fuel vent third check the sending unit, water sitting on top of the tank will find its way into the tank. The gas cap o-ring is extremely common..... |

cracked up fill hose or vent hose will cause that too. |

Water in the fuel Thanks -- I will check the vent hose connection. The idea that it might have fallen into the bilge make sense to me. I will have the system pressure tested. Thanks everyone |
