Bench Seat Project

Objective: Simple to maintain, Cheap, and Practical
Here is what I came up with using Plywood, Resin & Gel Coat.
Here is my start with Ply laminated in polyester resin 4 coats dry fitted as shown. Gel Coat in progress.
The back will be mounted on SS hinges for easy access to the Motor and tilting etc.

Damm Teak Door look at it after a year in the Florida Sun ..Like my X it needs attention I guess :)

"A BOAT IS LIKE A WOMAN, THE RIGGING COST MORE THAN THE HULL."

Unlike a woman, the boat doesn't nag and when you do get around to giving her a little attention you know she will be right where you left her without the least bit of attitude and she will appreciate every bit you do.

Teak simply sucks in the Florida sun. I love the way it looks when you stay on top of it but Starboard is virtually maintenance-free.

The seats are yours, we will arrange a meet. Thanks, Vic

gonna be sweet with the gelcoat finish on it....going to something with cushions or leave it bare? you're making this resin and gelcoat thing look so easy I need to start making something.

Gel coat is easy don't try to cheat like I did here and over sanded the edges using a palm sander (edges must be done the hard way) I have to re-spray these spots trick is to tape up the sanded area.
As for cushions for the seat I may have something custom done it the fall ..
See the edges ? I remove 20 plus mils and expose the resin ..

I think i would have put some finish cloth on and faired it. Thats a sweet set up tho. what kind of ply is that? Looks like some nice quality birch ply.

Do what?

Man, that is a good deal on the resin and gelcoat. It would be worth the drive from Lakeland. Last resin I bought was $30/gal. Back in 2000 when I was hot and heavy into the rebuild I was paying $17.99/gal and I was buying 10 gallons at a time. I won't even tell you what the gelcoat was running. I could have built another boat with the money I would have saved. COL!
