One of my other passions. . . . . .

i have always loved riding. i used to ride to and from work before i was married (aaahhhh. . . . the good old days). round trip approx. 50 miles per day.
i've ridden to montauk several times and averaged about 300 to 500 miles per week.
i just picked up my first "fixie". it has a fixed gear which means when the wheels are spinning the pedals are as well.

Have your prostate checked.

Charlie, what needs to be fixed on this one? Looks to be in nice condition, but I'm speaking as a greenhorn. Are you going to add more gears?

phatdaddy 08-14-2009 07:25 AM

i'd invest in a kick stand, easier that lugging that cinder block around...

send in the clowns.
grace, fixed gear means that when the wheels are spinning the pedals are turning as well. you cant coast with a fixed gear bike. you are constantly spinning the pedals. there is a method of braking called skidding which take some practice.

this is basically a track bike. it weighs in at 18.5 pounds and will be about 15.75 when i'm finished with it.

Ohhhhh..... duh..... now I get it. "Fixie" refers to the fixed gear. Sorry, I'm a little slow this morning. :-)

Nice ride CTT, but around here you have to be a hippie to ride a fixed gear.

I have recently traded my HD in for a Giant here at work.

I gotta guy here that goes to NC State but works summers here at the marina that just got one of those. He loves it, and it took him a little while to learn the braking technique.

nipper 08-14-2009 03:08 PM

I hope you do not take offense here CTT, but I cannot picture you riding one of those. A big ole harley maybe, but not a racing bicycle!

spareparts 08-14-2009 05:36 PM

yeah, CTT, we've all seen pics of you, can't imagine you on a pedal bike. I don't know what you have planned for the weight loss on the bike, but I figure you can loose that much weight by just taking a fresh magazine in the head when you go.
