Additional Fuel Tank?

OK, have an 87 cuddy with a 60 gallon tank. Replacing tank and wondering if it's worth putting in another tank somewhere.

In case you haven't seen my other posts, floor from cuddy to transom is currently out.

Probably going to run a 150 motor and wondering if 60 gallong will be enough.

Also, if I add one where would be the most logical place to put in my model. My 60 gallon tank is in middle in between the front seats as it was a full transom sea drive model.

Anyone have some literature or info on how dual tanks get plumbed?

Great question. I have a 150 yami 2 stroker and pushed my 60 gallon tank to the limit once. We made a 40 mile run one way, trolled for 5 hours and then back. I think it was about 120+ miles total. Ended the day with less than 10 gallons. My BH was a little puckered toward the end....passed right by breaking fish without stopping despite objections from the crew!

How many mpg do you get out of your motor? I get about 2.5 mpg and a little less in sloppy seas.....I know, 2.5 sux. I need Randlemanboater's 140 4 stroke - he gets 5mpg with it - nobody likes him on account of it. LOL :you:

hey there is an idea. See if you have any room for a couple of saddle tanks or the like.

Actually, don't know mileage as I just got the project with no motor so I'm debating what i'm going to power with. General consensus seems to be 150 will power nicely. I don't want to overpower and cut my fuel even thinner.

I like to go offshore fishing which may be quite a bit of trolling or running around looking for the fish.

150hp does a great job. I have a spare 20 gallon tank I thought about making it an above deck removeable unit. I don't think there would be room in the belly of my boat for an additional tank. If you have the boat apart and see room for a tank I say go ahead and drop one in.

With a 4 stroke I doubt you'd need additional fuel.

The more I think about it I seem to remember we still had 12 gallons in the tank that day...."48 gallons" is what I'm seeing in my head when trying to recollect how much we put back at the end of the day...still too close for my comforts!

Best of luck

You figure at worst case 2mpg, 60gal will be 120 miles. Also, like reel said (think it was him) 1/3 there, 1/3 back and 1/3 for whatever problems might arise.

If you look at Reelapeelin's boat he put in two 40 gallon tanks, one under each above deck seat box/pedestal for 80 gallons total...I'm sure he'll chime in shortly.

Reel did a great job on it I might add!

Reel got any pics of that setup? I looked through gallery but can't seem to find any.
