 Mystery part

I can't find this part in my manual or on mercruiser parts.com. Anyone know what it is, and more specifically where I can find a replacement?
The blue cylinder thing is the mysterious part. |

What is the motor?? year and horse power?

It's a '78 Mercury 900. 90HP. Sorry, I posted the question on the iBoats forum as well, under the 'Mercury repairs' topics and also here. I didn't think to include the make.

Where do the wires for it run to? It looks like a wire terminator to me from your pic though.

hard to tell from the pic, need a better one, too dark on my monitor to pic out the details. Thats not teh mercury(Hg) kill switch to keep you from starting the engine when tilted too high is it. Take a better pic and I'll try another guess

I wonder the same thing. That could be the mercury switch, but I've never actually seen one. Why would you want to replace it anyway? Take the keys out the ignition before you drive it away and it shouldn't start.

That's for the help! I'm including a little better picture. The insulation on the wires has rotted away, and this is the cause of my concern. If it is a tilt switch, I have always thought to disconnect the battery when putting the boat up. And I could always just bypass this item.
