Yamaha 200 is fried !!!!
I think my 200 is no good anymore. I was riding yesterday ( at low speed ) and started hearing poping/craking sounds from the engine, when I looked back, I saw white smoke coming out of the engine case. I shut the motor off, removed the cover and found 5 out of the six cylinders with a brownish/gold like color on the outside. The only one that looks normal, had the spark plug wire disconnected ( ? )
The engine runs, but sounds very bad. From 2 stroke dirt bike experience, I recognize the sound of bad/overheated pistons. There was no cooling water coming out of the pump, so I guess the impeller went bad. I am thinking a new 4-stroke 150 or so. But have not decided yet ( $?$?$? ) Luckily, I was about 1/8 mile from shore, and a comrade from the local marina gave us a haul to the dock with his 31 footer twin diesel, and I parked it with the motor in idle. I hope I can get the V20 fixed soon, because summer is just starting. |
thats bad news JJ, just went thru a scare myself with the motor. hopefully it is something you can repair or it works out well for you on a repower.
Good luck |
Bummer.......I suggest a 140 4 stroke:beer:

Simply amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not hard to believe since it`s an old Yami. I checked the compression on all six cans, and this is it : ALL but one, very close to 100 psi, the one lowest, 98 psi. The manual states ; Minimum Comp. Press. = 520KPa. If my calculations are right, 100 psi is around 690Kpascals. SO... !!!! the motor is still in the fight !!! Next is the impeller check and replacement. PERHAPS I underestimated how tough this older Yamis are. What a relief !!!! Anywho, a 4 stroker is still on my mind, maybe a Johnson or a Suzuki 140. |
